SLR expands decarbonization strategy and implementation services to Latam

We have expanded our capabilities in Latin America, bringing on a best-in-class decarbonization team focused on delivering integrated services for mining, energy, commercial and industrial businesses. The team has proven experience working across South America and coordinating globally with teams across all regions, partnering with clients to not only set their strategic decarbonization strategy, but support and manage through to site level implementation. These services complement SLR’s existing ESG, Finance Advisory, and Mining Advisory capabilities in Latam today.

We are pleased to welcome Jonathan Mayhew, Jasper Schrijvers, Tomás Baeza, Cristián Rencoret, Sofía Díaz, Nabil Kharrat and Martín Álvarez. Together, they have worked on over 100 decarbonization projects in Chile, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, México, USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Turkey, Belgium, and Nigeria. Their focus is on ideation and consulting for projects to reduce clients' emissions in their processes, energy use, and suppliers, facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy, and bringing these sectors closer to their net zero goals.

With this addition, SLR’s team in Latam now has nearly 250 engineers, scientists, and leading sustainability professionals, providing services that ensure environmental, social, and economic viability for our clients in the region.

Meet SLR's Decarbonisation team in Latam

Jonathan Mayhew is a Director at SLR in the Energy Advisory area, leading the mining and metals sector. With more than 25 years of industry experience and global consulting in the sector, he has worked for global mining companies and advised on projects around the world on strategy, mining productivity, process design and reengineering, and business excellence across the mining value chain. Previously, he was a Director at ENGIE Impact and worked at Deloitte in Strategic and Operational Transformation. He is a mining engineer from Queen's University in Canada, with a background in copper, gold, iron and zinc.

Jasper Schrijvers is a Senior Manager in the Advisory team at SLR, with more than nine years of experience in sustainability, decarbonization, green fuels, electric mobility and energy systems. His expertise spans engineering, strategic consulting, and holistic sustainability solutions. Prior to joining SLR, he worked for six years at ENGIE Group, first developing green mobility, hydrogen and decarbonization plans, and then leading decarbonization projects in Latin America, the United States and Europe, with a main focus on mining and metals. Jasper holds an MSc in Electromechanics and Smart Mobility, and a Postgraduate Degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from KU Leuven.

Tomás Baeza is Industrial Decarbonization Technical Director in the Advisory team at SLR . He has experience in the public and private sectors, including Strategic Consulting, Energy, Mining and Industrial. He has worked in multinationals such as SunEdison, Engie and ElectroAustral, and in government institutions such as Corfo. He has led international projects, designing strategic sustainability plans, reducing operational costs and mitigating environmental impacts. Prior to joinig SLR, Tomás was Manager of Decarbonization and Sustainability at ENGIE Impact, standing out in the incorporation of low-carbon fuels. His background is in Renewable Natural Resources Engineering, MSc in Sustainable Energies and Master's Degree in Management and Technological Entrepreneurship.

Cristián Rencoret is Industrial Decarbonization Manager at SLR, with six years of experience in sustainability, hydrogen, mobility and carbon emissions. He previously worked at the ENGIE Group. Cristián has led projects in mining, consumer goods, green investment and energy in Latin America, the United States and Europe. His experience includes hydrogen and electrification roadmaps, carbon footprint quantification, and clean mobility investment analysis. He is an Industrial Civil Engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with a specialization in Operations Research and Logistics and Cargo Transport.

Sofia Díaz is an Industrial Consultant in Decarbonization at SLR, with five years of experience in sustainability, circularity, off-grid solutions, and carbon emissions. She previously worked at ENGIE Group, developing and executing strategic and technical-economic analyses for the energy transition, sustainability, zero waste initiatives and climate risk mitigation. Díaz has worked with clients in diverse sectors such as energy, mining, technology, entertainment and public institutions in Chile, the United States and Mexico. Sofía is an Industrial Civil Engineer, graduated from the Federico Santa María Technical University.
